Why the studio exists

Started because quotes kept lying

We spent years inside agencies watching the same thing happen: a client signs an open-ended contract, the estimate drifts, and nobody can point to what the next invoice actually buys. The software usually shipped — eventually — but the trust was already gone.

Hephaestus Labs runs the opposite way. Every engagement is cut into discovery, development, and launch — each with a fixed scope and a fixed price you approve before we touch it. You can stop at a milestone boundary, take the repository, and walk. That constraint keeps us honest and keeps the work tight.

We work in TypeScript end-to-end, demo on staging every two weeks, and write infrastructure as code so your environments rebuild from scratch. It is deliberately boring tooling — chosen so your team can take the thing over after we leave.

What we build on

A good estimate is a promise you can audit — line by line, milestone by milestone, before a single commit lands.

  • 01 Scope the mold before the pour

    Discovery produces a written spec, a data model, and acceptance criteria. We would rather spend two weeks arguing about the diagram than six months building the wrong thing.

  • 02 Show working software, not status decks

    Every sprint ends with a clickable staging demo. Progress is something you log into, not a percentage in a slide.

  • 03 Leave nothing locked to us

    Typed codebases, migrations in the repo, Terraform for infra, and documentation your team can read. The exit ramp is built in from the start.

  • 04 Price the stopping points

    Fixed fees per milestone, invoiced net-15. You always know what the next payment buys and where you can pause without penalty.
